Yacon
« on: December 31, 2011, 08:02:29 »
I am a bit disapointed as after checking back on Real Seeds to catch the Yacon harvest they have let us know that the rabbits eat them this year.  Missed them last year too.

Am now looking round to see if anyone else sells them.  Any ideas?

Sorry I can't help you with sellers, although I'd be interested to know as I'd like to try another variety.

Mine's not harvested yet although it looks to have done well this year and I should have some I can send you in exchange for postage if you are interested. It wont be before early spring as it's too early to start it off now.

Thank you for your kind offer.  I have found a possible supplier -

Edulis have Polymnia sonchifolia advertised.  I have contacted them to see if they can supply.  I enquired about the Camassia quamash and the Apios americana whilst I was about it.  I really like the idea of perennial vegetables.

If they are unable to help I would very much like to try this plant and will let you know.

I think they are great, easy to grow and well worth a try,  though not something I'd eat everyday. They are a prebiotic and possibly some other health benefits, interesting having  a google. Although be warned after eating them they tend to have a similar affect as artichokes!
