Just tried it today on a gluten free basis and half maize flour ( that is the yellow corn flour one not the white cornflour the Americans call corn starch ) with a quarter rice flour and a quarter potato starch works with a tiny bit more water works with a teaspoon of baking powder. (mix the dry stuff first)IF it is served hot or at least very warm. Should any one finds it hard to find potato starch then get the own brand instant mash from Sainsbodies. They do the same at our UK WALMART = ASDA but it is almost twice the price. Seems their offer they advertise does not count because the quantity in the Sainsbodies pack is almost double the quantity in the ASDA pack.Yes they have a right to compete but friends. Do check the price carefully on the price per kilo or litre. It is no sin to take a calculater and note pad out with you when shopping. My OAP mates shop at all the major supermarkets and get a supply in for a month of certain items. Then do the rounds again.THEY (the supermarkets) do not like it THEY want us to buy from them 52 weeks a year. Also, do not forget Netto Aldi and Liddle. If you have a free bus pass use that to find out where you are to where there are stores on a bus routeThankfully I live in an area where I can get a bus every 10 mins to major shopping centers in both directions and links to other places where there are routes to a load of places I can walk round and shop0Plenty to do on rainy days when I can not tend to me lottie. LOVE retirement. So much better than working. Just hope me health stays with me. Did 40 years working without a break and paid me dues but still feel slightly guilty about being retired.I am fit and healthy Then I see the numbers of people unemployed and do not feel so bad leaving the jobs to them. Wish people would stop asking me to return to work and offering me jobs. It is hard to say no to them. Not because I want the money but the challange is, well. Tempting.
