Propagator Vents
« on: January 25, 2005, 14:49:04 »
This is one of those things I am never sure about!
My seedlings have emerged and there is condensation on the inside of the lid. Should it be vents open during the day and closed at night, or vents always closed, or vents always open?!!  Thanks in confusion....DP

Once the seedlings are through I usually start opening the vents, open a little more each day. It will not cure the condensation completely but will help a little. Only problem I have found is the seedlings tend to dry out a little quicker with the vents fully open.
A little better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow

I think that it is a gentle way to introduce the seedlings to a slightly lowering temperature.  Open a bit each day (close at night if it is in the greenhouse)  If however it is indoors then I would leave it open day and night  increasing how much it is open slowly over several days. Hope that this is a help Doris.
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

I keep them closed until germination, as soon as I get germination I open vents in the day for a few days and then remove the lids during the day and put it back on at night for a few days. Then remove it totally.

This is in a heated greenhouse at about 14 degrees.
