Potatoes from last year which did not grow?
« on: May 09, 2011, 15:19:25 »
I asked last year if anyone knew why my pots did not grow and I had answers of Eal worm and frosts also grasses
This year the lads rotavated that large piece of ground with a little bit of horse muck which was dried.  Anyway the spuds are growing have not watered or done anything at all (these are the same spuds from last year)

I had used my leek trench early this year to try to see if the tatties would grow there and they have started, but the ones from last year that did not grow are looking great lovely shiny leaves, even the late spuds are showing their heads.

Can anybody tell me whats going on in my garden-also will I be able to use last years spuds or dig the lot up?

If you used commercial potatoes rather than seed potatoes, they might have been treated with sprout inhibiting chemicals to prolong their storage.

Thes e potatoes might indeed never sprout or sprout very weakly.

I bought from a seed merchant the ones that did not grow last year. The ones in the leek trench are cheap seed potatoes.
