Growing Garden peas + Runner beans together ???
« on: April 23, 2011, 10:21:58 »
Hi
We have assembled 2 garden arches from Wilkinsons and have put canes across them to join them to make an arch.
I dont really want to grow runner beans up both sides of it..... can I grow peas up the other side ????

Is this possible ????

Regards

Dawn

I dont see why not apart from my experience of Wilkies arches - I grew french beans up both sides - the arch broke in several places - looked as if the 'pull' from each side of the beans, (and perhaps the wind) had given it metal fatigue. I may have been unlucky with that particular arch but wonder if runner beans being stronger woulld pull against the peas?

Dawn..I've had similar set up for several years now..I bought Wilko's arches from sale..made long tunnel with them and tied canes to keep the structure together and strong.
I've grown different crops on it and all has worked well..last year I had climbing courgette on one side and sweet peas on other..and some french & runner beans too.
Anything is possible..go for it!  ;)
