surprise surprise
« on: March 30, 2011, 14:14:53 »
Here is a flower spike on the tumbler tomato this morning. I could not believe my eyes

When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I sowed all the tomato seed on 6th Feb. Inside on the widowsill and then into the cold GH in a mini GH laid on its back with the zips on top.

Don't they get a bit leggy when you sow them as early as that? Or do you use a light to lengthen the day artificially?

They are not leggy at all and if they were they would be going down deeper in their final pots. I do use a foil back drop with all my windowsill propagators and this stops them reaching. They go outside when they are between one and two inches.

Well last year I tried sowing them on 2nd Feb and they were great. This year I was a few days late..Tomatoes seem to be quite hardy cos we had one seedling growing  in the sand at the side of the cold GH last April
BTW Its nice to see another member from Court Lane R.A.R. Welcome to the nut house

Tony and mysef gave him the name Right Angle Ranch cos that is what his plot is like.
He's only had it for just over a year and it's a credit to him and his wife.I am sure that the bloody faries come in at night and do a bit of dusting for him. Of course only right angles are allowed .I will ask him if I can take a photo when I go today

I sowed early last year and then kept one or two inside and had tomatoes for the end of may!
Did the same this year and mine look like yours, so hoping it works again.
