Oh not seen them!
I've got white rot on old plot- not sure about new one. I never grow overwintering onions in the ground only in spent compost and start onion and garlic and shallots in pots then plant out a bit later. I also use yellow sulphur in planting holes.
Would like to know how you get on with them ;)

I'm not sure "resistant" varieties is the way forward... eelworm resistant potatoes just caused a build up of eelworms in the soil. If you have to grow onions grow them in containers to avoid contamination while the soil rests... for about a decade..  :-X

Yep, although it is much further south here. All of them - Stuttgarter and Jaune paille des Vertus for browns, and Red Baron reds all went in in March. I don't get white rot but sometimes bolting is a problem. last year I had loads of great onions.
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com

got mine in over the warm weekend, sturon ,stuttgarten, red baron. tried a white variety last year but they were very poor keepers.  Was also given some onions that reproduce on top of 1ft long stems like a clump of ariel shallots ??? any ideas? has anyone grown them before?
Insanity takes it's toll....................please have the correct change.

sounds like walking/tree onions,  I'm hoping to try these for the first time this year too.  there's quite a few posts on here about them if you search egyptian/tree onions.

good luck :)

A tree or top-setting onion of some description.... Egyptian tree onions most common, Catawissa's are a lot bigger, there are others..... IIRC Welsh onions sometimes topset too..
