Bad year for me as hubby has been ill and had to give lottie up  :'(
BUT... raised beds are going in at home so next year watch out, can't wait to try the melon seeds Jeannine sent me  :D

Just an update on the tomato scene.............. and a thank you for all the seeds, Celebrity has been overwhelming, huge tomatoes and so sweet as was the one seed, Jeannine's escapee that I think was a tigrella picture below. More tomatoes are yet to ripen and if I can will post pictures.

Oh good, Celebrity is an excellent reliable tomato I am so glad you tried it.

It is a bush(determinate so no pruning) and is well known over here for it's vigourous growth abd exceptionally tasty fruit.It is a hybrid  and has good  strong foliage which  has good disease resistance including late blight.8 ounce fruits are firm and  brilliant red .

Collards have produced lovely tasty leaves and will have another go next year with them.

Squash.....Jumbo Pink Banana would have been better named as a Jumbo Pink Torpedo as it is HUGE and will go into to local show in two weeks time, then eaten!

I always say if you love the look of your veg let others see them too then eat them! The shyest of folk around when it comes to showtime but it's worth having a go, see what you need to do better for the next year. Even if you don't show, visit your local horticultural society at show time to suport them, have a peek and I'm sure lots of you will be tempted to put something in next year.  It costs very little to enter (10p per entry as I'm a member and my annual membership if £5 - 20p for non-members at our society) and you can dive in - put whatever on the bench and dive out if you blush a lot, like me.  :-[

That sort of local show is just a bit of fun; you don't need anything extraordinary unless you're entering something like leeks. I run a show on my site, and it's not competitive at all. I put a few very ordinary veg in, and usually win the odd class.

Just letting the last go to ripen in the greenhouse for seed saving for me and a few to pass on - that's what it's all about Jeannine  :)


PS to Robert. Showing takes a lot of effort and hope you would agree, whether it be on a small or large scale. I just enjoy it and wouldn't even contemplate showing outside our village. I agree about leeks - one day perhaps  ::) but I grow them to eat not to show, yet  ;).  Not sure how to put this about the "fun" bit without upsetting you, but there are folks in our village that take it more seriously than that. I try every year to do my best as a relative novice in showing. All I ask is that other folk who read this post might have a go. Local horty societies aren't as haughty as the name suggests and it only takes a gulp and then place it on the bench! x

Just hope you all noticed the first oak tree leaf that had blown in this evening too.....another harsh winter coming  :'(
