Sorry, I just have to comment on this!  >:( (This is my personal view I must add.)

As with any statistics or research, it depends what research you select to read, the quality of it, and the bias of the reviewer. I would be very interested to know what the motivation behind this analysis is....like David, I am very skeptical it will end up being an artificial milk or food company.  :-\

Just as an aside, as far as the comment about fully b/f babies not adapting to bitter tastes, I know there is also in existence a piece of research that shows that if breastfeeding mothers eat a diet high in 'strong' flavoured veg like broccoli and cauliflower, babies get used to the taste via their mothers milk and are more likely to eat them as children! See what I mean about selective evidence....

Mothers have enough trouble making choices for their children, about feeding, nutrition, vaccinations etc. without having it made even more difficult by having contradictory and confusing pieces like this written.
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

It was all over Radio 2 this dinner time... it was a review of recent studies... but as the rep said if you work in the field you are going to be involved with the sponsors (food companies)....  :-X

Personally I dont see much wrong with it - all it is saying is that it may be benificial to introduce other foods at 4-6 months or in their own words there is no compelling evidence not to introduce solid foods at 4-6 months.

What is wrong with that?  It doesn't mention anything about man made baby foods.  Its absolutely natural to introduce other foods as well as breast milk within the first 6 months - people have been doing that for thousands of years - perfectly normal and natural.
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

My blood pressure is sky high today because of all of this. It makes me so mad that the media are hyping this up and not reporting it properly  >:(

UNICEF UK have responded well...pity most of the major papers and channel probably won't report it as much: http://www.babyfriendly.org.uk/items/item_detail.asp?item=680

...and you're all right about the manufacturers being involved: http://info.babymilkaction.org/news/policyblog140111  :-X :-X

All i know is that on the mum and baby forums i am on there are a lot of confused people i am glad Harriet is past this age to worry :) But the information you get changes from week to week at the moment with babies its all very confusing so i just ignore it and go with mummies instinct which means i am going to be right 50% of the time according to them and 100% right according to harriet which is all that matters!

OH works in this field... but can't give open advice for legal reasons... I'm fairly certain there are some foods best not introduced for at least a year... it's over 15 years since we stopped feeding our boys so I can't remember the specifics... but I think early exposure to gluten can be very bad for some individuals...   :-X

When mine were babies, now 41,39 & 32 yesterday I think things with gluten were avoided but I can't remember until what age, about 4 months I think. Mums who were bottle feeding quite often would put some rusk in the last evening bottle so they could get a full nights sleep. I think also weening depended on the babies weight.

A friends baby wasn't gaining weight & his mum was scolded at the clinic, he also had skin problems. He was referred to a specialist & mum was advised to carry on breast feeding but to cut out dairy for herself & the skin problem went.

I just laughed at this...........breast milk is best for a baby.Nature tells you so.

Not every woman can successfully breast feed and then it is the bottle............I think several million have coped ok.

I feel sorry for young mums today..........it is like a mine field.

My Daughter is always telling me I am wrong re babies ............I don't bother reminding her that I reared three quite successfully.

More support is needed in the hospitals I think, when my Grandson was born the staff told my Daughter they were too busy to help. :(  Sad that.

Thousands of years ago babies had two options, mother`s milk, or starve. It must have been a pretty successful system because we seem to have evolved pretty well. Apart from politicians. ;D ;D

I don't know if it is still going on but I have read of baby milk manufacturers trying to introduce bottle formula to third world countries where women had little in the way of facilities to sterilize bottles. They had little concept of the need for the need for sterilization, you can imagine the outcome.
