any bonsai experts out there?

I got my first ever bonsai for christmas. I have no idea what variety it is.

Any tips on growing them?

some of the leaves are turning yellow, is that supposed to happen?

Unless it is a tender plant it really should be kept cool.  I believe where lots of peeps go wrong is they keep these little trees inside their homes, trying to keep them evergreen, when these are just tiny deciduous trees, well, unless they are little evergreen trees, but even so, they are mostly hardy and should be kept outside, in a sheltered spot.  I have stacks of books on bonsai-ing and it is quite an amazing art.  I would say go to the library and get a good book on it, if you are serious about doing it.

Aqui I kept them for 14 years, but not in this country!! They do, as EJ says like to be treated as real trees and NOT as houseplants!
Beware, bonsai'ng can become addictive!
If you can post a pic of it, someone here will surely recognise the variety!
They are tougher than you thinK!

I can confirm this too.  Bonsais have to be kept cool - otherwise they will not survive.  They need watering as soon as received and kept in a nice coolish place!
Good luck with them !

Enjoy today to the full.  You are not sure of a tomorrow.

ooh right. It's in my kitchen at the moment, which is quite cold (no heating in there and big, drafty window).

I'll take a pic of it and post it as soon as it's developed.
gone to pot :D
