Plant Suggestions for a Landmark Birthday Gift
« on: October 05, 2010, 18:35:21 »
I am looking for a plant related gift (possibly a rose) to give to someone for their 60th birthday next week. The person is a keen gardener and i was thinking it would be nice to give them a plant, the name of which has a connection with the event. Does anyone know of a plant (ideally a rose or shrubby plant with interest at this time of year) like this that would be a good 60th birthday gift?

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Could you give us a first name to widen the field a bit.

Sixtieth anniversary is diamond.

There's a rose 'Congratulations', it's a big pink one, but might that be a bit vague?

Yes sorry i should have  included a name shouldnt i in case there is a plant with the persons name in it rather than refering to 60th birthday alone. The name of the lady concerned is Sandy.

Hope this helps.

PS Any good sites worth doing a search on?

For roses i would recommend looking at Peter Beales roses
http://www.classicroses.co.uk/index.php
The search functions on the website are extensive, including by colour, year of introduction, scent and many others. They have a very extensive range.
The roses themselves that I have had are great plants and are doing well in my (sadly neglected) flower garden.

The only one I could find was Sandy Femma:

? Sandy is short for Sandra/Alexandra...might give you more options!
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

If it's a diamond theme how about a topiary gem - faceted frame with a box plant or similar?
A space? I need more plants......more plants? I need some space!!!!
