smelly shed
« on: October 01, 2010, 19:29:26 »
I have been given a shed which has had birds kept in it.  Its in quite good condition but has an awful smell which I don't know if I can live with.  I am thinking of spraying bleach or wiping over with Jeyes fluid.   Before I do is there anyone out there with a better idea?    Thanks.

Can you leave the door open to let the fresh air in?

Thanks.   The door is left open at the moment and there is a gap of 2'x4' where the window should be.  Also it has been left outside in bits for the last 3 months.  Will try the Jeyes fluid.

I think it'll need more than an airing.  I'd give it a jolly good scrub with sugar soap and then perhaps another scrub with bicarb.  If you douse it with Jeyes it'll just stink of Jeyes for evermore.

If it's tongue and groove construction, I'd scrape between the grooves very thoroughly, stiff brush, and then creosote, it's the only thing I ever found that overcame bird pong.........

I agree with using a wood preservative, the smell of most of them will overwhelm most things.

Fabreeze may be going a bit far but it does work.

if it is only the floor of he shed with all the bird poo on that is smelling I would give it a good scrubbing with Jeyes fluid then put it to one side to dry out completely and then cover the floor with a layer of two mil ply, rather cosmetic but this would work, :)
