Vegetable shows
« on: March 13, 2010, 09:23:23 »
Can anyone give me some help as to how to organise a vegetable show?

Have just been on the allotment for a year and volunteered to organise a small show for the other holders.  No idea where to start, catagories to include or where to get certificates etc.

We have a communal hall to hold the show in and some other willing helpers but do need advice.

HELP PLEASE!!!

Here is some info on our show, which is site only.

I would suggest contacting other local allotment sites and see if you can get a volunteer to judge the show and take it from there.

Garden News of March 2nd, page 44, has an article called Your Show/Top Tray & Top Vase. With T&M they are selling for £10 a Complete Show Pack, which includes £90 of T&M vouchers, entry cards, certificates and prize labels. Not sure if that is a bit over the top for what you want! It mentions a web site www.liveforgardening.com for rules and so on.

Many thanks to you all.  Just what I needed to get me started.

Will sort an independent judge out as there are quite a few allotments in the area.

I appreciate you taking time to pass on your knowledge. ;D

We hope to have you a successful show. Good Luck and keep growing. I will be soon preparing for a herb events, but for now. I have to put my entire attention to herb garden which at the moment is ready for harvest.
