What fun!
The swishy skirted gal in number 3 might actually help keep birds away
and number 9 is scarily real
but the two men in 8 are charming. Makes me think of Paul Simon's song Old Friends sit on a park bench like bookends.
The handle on your recliner does not qualify as an exercise machine.

3, 4 and 8.  Would find it difficult to choose one out of those. Brill.

For me is it 3,4,1 in that order.  Everyone has made a huge effort with their scarecrows and they all look fantastic,  so its hard to judge.  I loved number 8 but think they look so cute they are more likely to attract the birds (and feed them) than scare any away!   Well done everyone.
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

Have done a rough tally of those that clearly had made up their minds and the result is;

No.4 = dix pointe (10)

No.3 = quatre pointe (4)

No. 8 = quatre pointe (4)

How about a proper poll?

Thanks for doing that Tee Gee.  I'd love to have a proper poll but I don't know how to do it.

no. 1 - Worzel and Aunt Sally!

no. 4, the mother and baby (and my favourite) came second

and

no. 8, the two old blokes (mine) came third.

Hey, so the two old blokes were yours, well done they are smashing. I would like to know how you did this compo thing, I think it would be really great to see if we could do it here..when etc..if you don't mind sharing your ideas.

Hi Jeannine,
It's really easy to organise.  I made laminated posters for the notice board asking people to make a scarecrow and put it near the front of the plot before 25th July. Then the following week we asked someone unconnected with the allotments to come and judge them.  In the past we have had our local councillor (who said it was the highlight of her year  :)) the local police,  a shopkeeper and this year the manageress of the local pub.
I'll continue this in another reply, I've just got the problem of the text jumping while I type and it's a bit annoying as I can't remember how to put it right

(cont) We charge £1 each to enter the competition and the money is then divided between the first three.  I won £2!  The scarecrows are left in place until they disintegrate.  Visitors to our Summer Fayre on Aug. 14 will be able to see them and I will put laminated certificates up next to the winners.

Did you see this late entry to the competition?

Sorry I'm a bit late but I chose 8 and 1 in that order......so Squash I apparently liked yours the best.

There is one scarecrow on our site that scares me everytime mainly because i mistake it for a real person. I think scarecrows are probably more use on humans than crows.
