"It was a bit of fun keeping them from getting frost damaged creeping about in the dark with plastic bottles, milk bottles filled with water and fleece."

This sounds 'interesting'.  I've heard of many tips and tricks for this gardening malarky, but not sure about the details of this method.

Are the bottles of water used as a barrier?  Do you use hot water?  Should I start pilfering from the neighbourhood's recycling bins ready for next winter?

Oh so many questions............... Huh

Sorry, I asked this question on the Spud Challenge thread but it has got buried now.  I am still itching to know the answer.  Although having given it some thought, I'm wondering if they are used to weigh down the edges of the fleece.

I use 2 litre milk bottles filled with stones to weigh down fleece/netting.
