Brill, thanks for that. Hope they have some left by the time I get there.

Also keeping my eye out to see if they do the fruit trees again this year.

Got some of these last year and they are all now doing well.  Actually had two gooseberries and a couple of raspberries already.  Problem is they come without any indication of variety.  Not sure when to prune the raspberries especially when they produced a crop in the autumn.

THe lack of varietal names is a bit of a pest from the management point of view.... I'll have to see if I can pick up a couple of packs of the blackcurrants though.... not too fussed which variety  they are really, though with raspberries it would be nice to know.... I've got a pair I got from Aldi (IIRC) that are in pots (and will be going out soon)... they've been in pots for a year or so now and one of them pretty much always had a fruit or two on it through the summer... the other was a bit smaller and put up a few flushes of two or three..... Once I sort out the bottom of the garden with regard to the sheds then I'll know where I'm putting the fruit..... looks liek the pond will have to go through....

Went down to local Lidl today (apparently the busiest one in Bristol) and at first couldn't find any - boohoo!!
Then I found a couple of boxes on their side, so well hidden - and went mad!
I got 3 packs blackcurrants, 4 packs redcurrants and 7 packs raspberries .... so that's (gets calculator out) 9 blackcurrants, 12 redcurrants and 21 raspberries.
And it's going to pour with rain tomorrow!
Hope I've cleared enough space on my lottie - how long does it take to plant 42 fruit bushes - and how long to recoup the £35 I've spent?
I know what I'll be doing on Sunday  :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Good luck!  And the weather looks kind, too.

Given that redcurrants were selling locally for £2 for 125g, I'd say you'll get your 35 quid back next year from those alone!

Thanks for posting this thread.  I went on Friday expecting them to be sold out baut came away with a pack each of red and blackcurrants, and two raspberries.

Just off to plant them out.

I must say that I am very pleased with the size of the root balls considering the price.  They were not the twigs you get in poundland.

I agree with Digeroo on this, compared to some of the fruit bushes I bought last year these seem like poerfectly sensible bare-root plants. Decent amount of root on them and they've all got multiple stems and visible living buds. I got two packs and got them iinto 8" pots of soil/compost/manure the day after I bought them. High hopes that they all survive.

Chrisc, how deep did you plant them in the pots?

I thought raspberries were shallow rooted and didn't really know how deep to put them in, so didn't plant them that deep.  I could always whip them out and put them deeper if they need it.

On mine it was easy enough to tell how deep they'd been originally so most of them went into stadnard depth 8" pots, but a couple went into extra-depp 7" cos they had longer roots....
