Topic: splitting tomato plants by the root

i've stupidly gone and let a few tomatos (marmande) to grow together and was wondering what the effect of splitting the root system at such an advanced stage would be.

I was thinking I should just let them carry on growing as they are and make sure they're well staked and supported.

anyone have any advice they can give me?

you can tease them apart, but at an advance stage it may knock them back a few weeks. or you can tain teh two stems in opposite directions and treat them as a double vine.

What do you call the advanced stage, some of mine did not go in till they started to flower.
I don,t see a problem with splitting them if you put them back with plenty of depth so the nodes can root.
As stated they don,t have to grow straight up they can be grown at angles so you can see and remove the side chutes, you could also lay one down onto the soil and cover the joints where side chutes are growing so they root and let them grow as a normal tomato.

i've decided to let them grow at angles as i don't want to slow them down.

hopefully i'll get a nice big crops this year
