How lovely.
« on: May 02, 2010, 14:39:22 »
Today we went to our daughters allotment. It's not been cultivated in more than 9 years, full of couch, bindweed & horsetail. Just like ours was this time last year. OH is double digging trenching & manuring it for her. We have met some really lovely people. One chap came over with 10 Chelsea Pensioner strawberries, coss lettuce seedlings & PSB seedlings for her. Someone else gave us J artichokes. Daughter was given 3 chairs so we have somewhere to rest. Another chap came over with a mattock & helped OH dig up some buried carpet ::). What lovely people but then they are allotmenteerers ;)

That's great....I wish people were same everywhere..not just in lotties...
We too try to help newbies to get going ...all extra veg is offered for and if not taken only then they are destined to a compost heap..but someone to offer mussle power..that is generous.. ;D

When we took on our plot we were given all sorts of help advice plants etc and when we got our shed the OH just passed the tools to the lovely guys who "helped"him put it up.Now we're in the position to help other folk especially newbies and it's great.
I'm a great believer in if you can't repay a favour  pass it on  :)
Goodlife it would be wonderful if the spirit of allotment folk carried on beyond the site gates :)
sanity is overated
