Those figures are extremely high.  Just think how much land the council could buy with that sort of money.  No the wonder we have a huge National debt...

It's much worse even than that Pigeon.  It costs the tax-payer £108k for Newbury Town Council to provide the allotment service, and because it costs so much the Council won't create any new allotment sites even though there are a couple of hundred people waiting for a plot and oodles of suitable land around Newbury.

If the Council made their allotments self-managing they could save the tax-payer £108k every year, and because it no longer costs the Town Council anything to provide allotments it could rent land for new sites and set them up self-managed too, all at no cost to the tax payer.

But Newbury Town Council actually enjoy spending all of that lovely tax-payer's money on administration and overheads and they suppressed our allotment society for the very reason that we had grown the capacity and enthusiasm to self-manage.
