Wilkinsons have got an offer on weed control fabric, 2 rolls each 1.5m x 8m for £5.  Thats 24sq.m for a fiver. their bigger roll which is 25sq.m (1 x 25) is £13.99!

it is cheap and great - but I've found it only lasts a year, and you can see daylight through it! But I just cover the ground beneath it with cardboard or manure and it kills the nasties off a treat  ;D

Is the Wilko one  the spun fabric or the woven type?

Got the Poundland stuff at first for our paths but had to double it as it was so thin and fragile looking. The Wilkinsons stuff is much better- made a good job of it and was easy to use.  With bark on top the paths look great!

I tried some pound shop stuff and it was so thin you could have read a newspaper through it, no way would it have blocked any weeds. It ended up as halloween fancy dress for my friends kids!

I have the Wilko £13.99 roll and it's much sturdier than the poundland stuff I had last year.  It's not full landscaping weight, but about the same as the chain DIY stores mid weight rolls which are easily twice the price.

We gravelled over a large area of my elderly mum's garden last year and when I was pricing up the options I noticed that there can be a difference in the width of the fabric, only 10cms or so, but over a large area, that adds up and changes the price model, so do check.

Much talk about this fabric controlling weeds.
The only time I used it was around Dwarf Beams. The weeds outgrew the beans which failed totally!

Mea culpa - we are told to over with a mulch. But, from what I read here, others do not use a mulch & still banish weeds?
