Rooks At Work
« on: October 27, 2004, 22:19:52 »
Has anybody else seen rooks at work in their allotment? I've seen them swoop down to carpet covered areas/plots, lift up the corner edges for the tasty sluggy morsels.

Yesterday, saw and heard a lot of robins at the plot.

Not seen any rabbits lately, maybe the foxes have finished eating the sweetcorn.

Clever birds, aint they Jamie. Did a garden once with overhead rooks, had to the clear the driveway of rooks nest sticks that had dropped just to get to the garden gate .Then they would go to the compost/stick heap to rebuild the nests and then a repeat of clearing the driveway just before leaving. The whole thing a bit surreal because the customer was a musician, so to the sound of the cello was the rooks noisy chatter and when finished and went in for coffee had to listen to the cello/rook finale, while desperately wanting  to get away before driveway filled up again...Robins back here for the winter and very welcome.

Magpies and Jays play games at my allotment, and the robins are back in my garden and on the plot to keep me company.
