Topic: Greenhouse temp

Hi all
just realised I have no idea what temp to keep
my greenhouse At!!! I currently have
my seeds on propergators on the windowsill.
I have a parrafine heater and a little
electric fan heater that could go in there. It got to
50deg today but while I was sieving my
compost it felt blinking cold, but nice to have
a bit of sun. Paid my rent today and didn't pay
my water charge as discussed prevously much
to committee members glum faces.still don't think they
willsort out water supply though

I can get the heater set now and get cracking.
Snow due for a return at end of week, so I can get
greenhouse nice and cosy for sowing.

I think he meant you need this temperature for germinating seeds.

If it is to keep plants ticking over then around 40°-42°F (4°-6°C) is enough.

As you see in this picture I have three temperature ranges;

1) the propagator for 60°+

2)the hot bed for 50°+

3)the fan heater for 40°+

I have now got rid of the propagator (it broke down) but I find by placing a tray cover over my trays I can replicate the temperatures I was getting in my propagator!

To keep air temperature at 60° is very expensive hence my different methods of heating.

As you may recall in a recent posting I mentioned I have bought a new fan heater and this is even better at keeping temperatures where I want them  (42°)

for your coldframe, whilst germinating seeds, yes, 60 will be fine, but as TeeGee says, 40 - 50 will be fine for a greenhouse. ;0
