too quick ?
« on: February 25, 2010, 10:56:33 »
I put some lettuce, broccoli and cabbage seed into pots and into the propagator 48 hours ago, they have already sprouted, 1/2" high and first pair of leaves just starting.

Will they be too weak and leggy? Should i try again only this time keep them out the propagator?
Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.

I should take them out of the propagator, leave them on a windowsill for a couple of days, then put them somewhere cooler. They don't need the heat, but it won't have harmed them if you harden them off slowly.

Hello and welcome to the site Lincsyokel  :)

If they are looking really leggy, I'd be tempted to start some more, but as you said not in the propagator. Cabbage and Broccoli seed don't need high temperatures to germinate.

Hi Lincsyokel2, welcome to A4A!

Lettuce don't need heat to germinate either - in fact they like it cool and will bolt if get too warm when growing. Plenty of time to start more of all if needs be. I've had some brassica seeds on my windowsill in a cool bedroom- germinated in 5 days I was a bit surprised it was that quick.  ;D

I had some Hispi seeds up in similar time.... bit of a pest cos they're sharing the module set with a load of musselburgh leeks.... now I need to split the modules down to get the Hispi's out ..... that said something else can go in in their place.... knowing me it will be more onions.
