gojo berry
« on: February 01, 2010, 12:29:55 »
Does anyone grow gojo berry plants. I did without to much info. except they are supposed to have lots of the stuff very good for you within!!! I planted 3 last year and they grew to 8ft and had to be staked. November I cut back to 4/5ft. I had heard they can be grown as a bush plant so is it just a matter of pruning back and if so will it not grow to the height again? There must be someone else in UK growing them, please help me.  willie

There are quite a few people growing goji.  I sowed mine last year and they got to about five feet tall.  There were quite a few posts several years ago but unfortunately none of them seem to still  be posting.
I have been trying to find out how long it is before they actually fruit.  I also want to know which bit has the flowers/fruit, I do not want to prune off all the action.  I managed to plant a whole row of 12 plants before I found out just how big they can get.  Their other name is Wolf berry so presume they go a bit wild.
I actually rather like the quaint name The Duke of Argylls Tea Tree.

Please don't be offended by my nickname 'Mortality'
As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

Thanks to those who replied to my plea for advise on the gojo berry, but after reading the information I am not sure what to do with them now, anyone gone ahead and got two or three year bush/tree.
