Just had the fright of my life!!
« on: January 16, 2010, 22:09:32 »
All i could here was this loud screaming, sent the OH (brave me) to find out if everything was OK. We seriously thought a woman was being hurt in some way around the back of our house. He ran out of the house and there were other people in gardens trying to find the source of the sound. It stopped after about 10 minutes. OH had a walk around and couldn't see anything so came home. I suddenly remembered reading some where about fox's screaming! so did a quick search on you tube and we have come to the conclusion that's what it was as we have seen fox's in the garden.

Scarest sound i have ever heard, anyone else heard it before?

Glad i didn't ring the police would have looked a bit silly :P

When we were first married we lived with in-laws (Chislehurst) there were allotments and woods at the bottom of their garden. We would hear the most blood curdling screams in the night, some said it was foxes others said it was rabbits being caught, never really found out the truth.

Our garden backs onto an ancient woodland and when we moved here in '83 then heard that noise we had to explain to the children that something had to die to keep another animal alive............wrong!

But it still sends a chill up my spine!

It sounds horrific, as though someone's throat's being cut, but nothing like that thank goodness!

We get it quite often in the garden. First time I thought someone was being murdered. When I realised it was foxes for a long time thought it was the death cries of prey but yes it's more their courting cries !!!!

The first time I heard it I thought a woman was being attacked in the street-I say attacked i thought she was being dragged off to be murdered. I flew outside in my dressing gown and saw 2 foxes legging it away. I couldn't believe it was them! It's a horrific sound-so human.... :-[
