Topic: Spuds,shallots and onions sorted

I went to our local nursery today, The Clockhouse and came home with the following.
3kg Rocket   £3.10   75 spuds

3kg Kestrel   £3.10   37 spuds

3kg Cara       £2.99   38 spuds

1kg Shallots   £2.00   30 sets

1kg Onions    £1.40    273 sets

£12.59 total and they gave me 4 empty potato sacks, job done.    ;D ;D ;D

What shallots and onions Kev?  Rocket and Kestrel defo, but Cara are a bit dull aren't they?

IMO it's Rocket that is dull and Cara aint't bad but that is what life is all about - each to his own - unless it is Moneymaker tomatoes which are just criminal.

I find Rocket watery and insipid as earlies - but the do go on and make a lovely second early - not really what they're sold as, but what I used them as.

Iain, I was going to ask you if you could do me a better deal next year,  ;)  as they all come from your neck of the woods.

Unwashed, the shallots are golden gourmet and the onions are Sturon, theres not much choice as they are loose, the prepacked ones are dearer, got less in them and come in them plastic bags.
Its my first time with Cara and only went on recommendations.

Redclanger, my earliest Rockets were the best new spuds I have ever tasted and commented by others as so, and seem to lose their taste the longer they stayed  in the ground.    :-\   ;D ;D ;D

Maybe local conditions affect taste? I loved Bonnie which I grew last year - but even the catalogues don't mention the flavour.
