Recommending the site
« on: October 31, 2009, 10:05:40 »
I met a chap on the allotment site yesterday who had just taken on the plot. I have always told folks about this forum. Yesterday was the first time I have ever had to tell anyone to ignore anything they find at all negative because most of the folks on here are sound.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I know its only cyber space , but all of a sudden the atmosphere seems gloomy. :(

I love hearing about everyones triumphs  :D and disasters  :'( and i hope that positivity frieindship and great gardening can rule the day, i thought id never met a horrid gardener, they are such rarities especially on this site, so heres to welcoming real newcommers and discovering renamed horrors quickly

Ive used the ignore button for the first time this week and it makes me sad to think that newbies might get the brunt of this rubbish.
can we publish a most ignored list?

I have felt sad, and sick, at what I've read here during today.
In view of that,  and the possibility that it will happen again,  there is no way that I would recommend this forum to anybody at the present time.

I am sorry to say that I have been using the ignore button for a long time and I also do not recommend anyone to visit the site without warning them to use the ignore button. I once left the site because of terrible personal attacks from certain people just because I live in Wales (I`m Scottish by descent). Those people are now ignored and I changed my email Addy to make sure it never happens again. One thing I must say that 99% of all members are great its the small mindless zombies that spoil things

Come on Folks!! don't let 1 or 2 trolls spoil a good thing!, this is a great site, and also a very useful and informative site, with some absolutely fantastic peeps as members. ok, we get the odd idiot posting, but you meet them in all walks of life, just ignore them, the site is big enough to not miss them!!  ;)
You couldn't make it up!

Well said tonybloke.  Have been growing veg for 37 year and have learned a huge amount since joining the site.

Gardening is always the same.  The weeds keep popping up.  I hate cabbage white butterflies but you just have to keep on top of things.

Thanks to comments like this that Admin are seemingly unable or unwilling to do anything about  it is not a great site!

Ignoring the person who made it solves nothing.

I'm not sure why, but some people on here take the whole trolling thing far too seriously. He only spoils it if you let him. Most of us have bitten at one time or another (me included), but most people new to this site will very quickly work out what he is & ignore him.

Every time there are arguments on here, a few of you seem to rejoice in saying "it's the end, it's all over, there's no future on here, we need more/less modding...." and the more you say it the more it's likely to become true.

OllieC are you saying that remarks like that shouldn't be taken seriously? If so then I'm surprised and disappointed.

Definitely not saying that Flighty, and for me he stepped it up a notch with that. Direct personal attacks and the threat to send illegal and offensive material to somebody's private e-mail should result in an automatic ban and if they are in the UK I'd like to see the police investigate the person who threatens to send such information.

I really don't think we should be entering conversations with people who have access to child pornography (which is what I assume he means). If they have access to it then it must be something they already have an interest in, and as such I would love to see the police investigate their hard drives and internet activity.

edited to add: What I am saying is that I don't think people should be so hasty in saying it's the end of the site, just because a sex offender wound us all up.

The original comment stated that he had already planted child pornography in her email account it was edited a few minutes later to say what it does now.

Neither comment is acceptable but Dan cannot do anything about any of these posts or the person making them until he is aware of the situation. I am sure he will of been sent a load of PMs and/or emails drawing the problem to his attention but until he checks his messages he will not be aware of the situation & cannot do anything about it. He can't be expected to be on the site 24 hours a day just in case there is a problem which needs his attention.

Where is Dan (may have missed it)

Isn't it a shame that one or two people can spoil such a great forum.

According to Dans profile he hasn't logged on to the site since the 2nd of November I don't know where he is.
The point I was trying to make is that he has a life outside A4A just the same as everyone else who uses the site does. Sometimes other things will take priority, wether it is work, family or whatever else he has going on is not relevant. He will check on the site when he can & will hopefully find a way to resolve the current problems then.

When you press the "Ignore" button for a poster, is the "Ignored" poster advised he is on someone's Ignore List? Or does he go on merrily thinking he is being read by all?
It would probably help I guess if he were informed, wouldn't you think?

There used to be a feature enabled which displayed in your profile how many people (if any) were ignoring you but some people didn't like knowing that so the feature was turned off. It never revealed the identity of the people ignoring you.

I think it must become apparent after a bit though, when your questions never get answered. Or maybe not?

OllieC and Baccy Man thanks for your comments.

Despite him later saying that it was an empty threat I consider that it was deliberately malicious and hope that he suffers the consequences for making such remarks.

the more you talk about it , the more  enjoyment he will get from it i have never responded about( it .or ,to it) before
and i take no notice of crap posts , but i will always recommend the site like the subject title says or should that be lets have a moan and keep reminding people about it ,
as for not recommending the site that's your personal choice don't try and make a crusade to put the site down ,the site is very good and so are most of the people
You can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt.
