Saving seed from Gypsy F1 peppers
« on: October 22, 2009, 12:43:57 »
I know they might not come true, but worth a try? Will the peppers have crossed with chillies as I have had both in the greenhouse?

Yes!

I tried this as an experiment 10 or 12 years ago. Not only did they come true, but they ripened earlier. I'm now on the umpteenth generation saved, and they are still producing brilliantly.

Thanks Trevor.

What about the chance of pollination? The peppers were in the greenhouse border and the chillies on the shelves so not right next to each other. I suppose I could end up with spicey peppers!

I've grown chillies and 2 or 3 sorts of pepper all jumbled together and haven't noticed any mishaps.
