Stuff that needs covering
« on: September 28, 2009, 18:34:57 »
we're due some frost according to the met office this week, I'm sure there must be more like me that are unsure what will succumb to it
I know it'll kill off toms, cucs and squash plants.
what about beans, celery and celeriac?
could someone list what I need to cover please,
we've moved the christmas spuds inside and have fleece handy  :)

I would have thought Celeriac would be alright Manics, but we'll wait to see what others say. It was a lovely red sky tonight as I was finishing at the lottie  so I don't think were due for one yet.   ???     :-\      ;D ;D ;D

Our celeriac went through last winter with no problems. Celery only sucummed after the worst snows. Frosted grapes make the sweetest wines (eiswine and spatlazer)

It's my first year growing butternut squash, they are yellow with just a faint stripe now, should I harvest them before the frost? Or fleece and leave them a bit longer?

I'd be tempted to leave them longer... but they will toughen up and change colour if you harvest them and can put them under glass...  :)
