We have a company in Edinburgh that composts all the garden waste and sells both compost and topsoil cheaply. Maybe you have something similar? Or you could try Freecycle or gumtree or ebay.

I get loads from freecycle but you generally need to pick it up yourself and it's unlikely to be bagged, you turn up with bags and a shovel and take it from a heap..... I don't mind doing that as I have a van and I can get builders bags in there to act as a loadspace liner...

I get manure the same way, plenty of places it's free iof you bag and load yourself, they just want shot of it before they have to pay to have it taken away....

Hi Misfit,

Give the local council a ring and ask for the recycling section.
They will put you in contact with one of their suppliers.
I did and found them to be fair and good on delivery.

Got them back now to put some tread on them

I must say that if you contact them in person they will give you the suppliers name and phone number. They get rid of all the green waste and use it to regenerate their beds for showing their plants off for the briton in bloom.
Give them another go and see.
I always talk to them and found this better than seeing whats on offer when reading.

Or you can choose to follow the link below to assist you.
