A book that remined me of this site
« on: September 09, 2009, 19:02:11 »
I have been given a copy of 'Nella Last's war', it was brilliant.  The Victoria Wood's  'Housewife, 49' was based on her true diaries during the second world war.

Nella's imaginative use of food, keeping her 'little hens' and how she fed them would have seemed alien to me a few years ago.  She even got her staid husband into growing veggie and then finally (after 31 years of marriage) acknowledged her use of good food to make it enjoyable to eat.

This is one of the best books I have read for ages (I read about 3 a week as I am not really a tv watcher).  Anyone with an interest in 'life at home in ww2' or how it was to be a housewife at the time will love this.  I have just ordered the follow-up book.

I would love to hear the views of anyone who has read or seem the above.  To those who haven't, give it  go.
