« on: August 31, 2009, 23:01:38 »
We've got a large greenhouse and the OH is putting up another one ,but we were talking tonight about what we grow in them.At present cucumbers ,tomatoes ,chillies and basil. We thought we'd put aubergines in there next year as they haven't faired too well outside this year. What do YOU grow ? the only thing we don't do peppers :(

melons, ochro, sweet potato, tomatoes from cuttings taken off of the outdoor grown toms in June to extend the season (they have just started to ripen, so fingers cross for christmas tomatoes), also my scotch bonnets and my hot loving herbs such as Greek and lime basil and Vietnamese coriander. the chili, basil and v. coriander i would normally over winter in the house and the conservatory as my greenhouse isn't heated.

next year i think i will surrender :-\ and grow a couple of aubergines as well.

not that i know of but i have noticed that yet again the lone surviving ochro plant i have, have produced another dinky specimen, by simply pushing off the flower bud without it ever opening.

very strange indeed, i sort of assumed that the ochro it produced before was small because the flowers weren't being pollinated as they didn't actually open and now you say you don't recall yours opening either, like i said very strange. and the flowers are really beautiful as well, i had hoped to get a picture of one :(.

What with all the time spent visiting hospital and generally keeping the home fires burning I seem to have grown an awful lot of weeds in the greenhouses/tunnel this year ::)

When I was still living in Angmering On Sea, Sussex, we had a greenhouse and we thought we would have a go at Angelica.
Well not a good idea, it grew and it grew and it grew, the smell was wonderful,
My aunt took some home to London with her and it smelt the train out, she did candy some though.
That was just one of the different well different to us things that we grew.

Cucumbers,  Tomatoes and peppers for me and I constantly have seedlings on the go most of the year.  Giving up on melons as the plant grows but never any fruit.  Over wintering lettuce and calabrese for planting out in Feb too.

A friend gave me a bit of turmeric root last weekend... I'm going to give that a go along with some single-bulb garlic... as well as the usual half-hardy stuff and seed starting....
