DVLA Post not actioned
« on: September 05, 2009, 12:35:50 »
Some time ago I scrapped a car.  I have written at least three times to the DVLA saying it as been scrapped, yet now I have got a fine about it.

Am I the only one or is this some kind of money making wease?

There are specific procedures to follow depending on how the vehicle was disposed of.  Details are here:

I was car jacked and the car was later found a wreck and abandoned.  The police had it towed to their yard and after examination the insurance people had it taken to a scrap yard.  Both the insurance agent and myself did the right paper work but a year later I received a letter saying I was liable to all sorts of penalties.  I keep a copy of everything so sent them one and asked for an apology.  Further letter same penalties.   The insurance company helped sort it out.  So another mix up.

You may have written to them but did you send off the SORN form.

I have tried all sorts they say they have had none of them.  Still feel this is a stealth tax.

I had a car stolen and written off a couple of years ago. Informed DVLA, and insurance company, with all the paperwork. When the car tax was overdue on it months later DVLA wrote saying I was liable to be fined for having an untaxed vehicle. Several letters later they accepted that it had been written off months before! They never apologised though.

Did you send any of the paperwork via Recorded Delivery? I know you shouldn't have to, but even when you send the correct form to the correct office they have a tendency to disappear into thin air. :( At least if someone has signed for it you have evidence to produce should you have to argue the case.
