No flowers on autumn raspberries
« on: August 23, 2009, 20:20:24 »
My autumn raspberries are in their second year and have grown to about 5 foot, but there are no flowers on them yet.  Is this normal?  ???

It could be the particular variety, I have some fruiting at the moment and a different variety is just growing lots of stems.

dunno if that helps.

Mine are not doing very well this year, their second year too, and I am sure someone else posted saying the same thing, perhaps it is just not a good year for them. :(

My lot for the first time after being in three years are cropping heavily and have been for about three weeks now.  It's probably the variety and they're still getting established.  Still plenty of time yet to crop!

Otherwise look forward to a bumper crop in 2010!

I got the "three sticks for 48p" in the Spring from T&M (not sure what variety they were) http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/smf/index.php/topic,49131.0.html

Stuck each of 'em in a buckit in the corner and forgot about them.

Now I'm getting a handfull of fruit from each. Not bad for 48p first year plants.

It's my 1st year with Autumn Bliss too and they've been cropping heavily for about the past 5 weeks. Only 5 plants but too many fruits to eat so have frozen them.

A pruning question - with autumn fruiting varieties don't you cut them to the ground once the first frosts have arrived?

Thanks

We grow Autumn Bliss  and they have fruited from the first year,I thin them out and cut them down Jan/Feb.I always dig up and give away during the thinning out process and with few exceptions most of the recipients have had fruit in the first year.Perhaps they don't like where you planted them ::)
