Growing Success pellets based on ferramol are safe for pets, children and wildlife.  Wilkos sell them.

They feed ferramol to anaemic babies so I'd not worry about it too much...  :)

I use pellets, but whenever I get the chance I stamp on the snails and skewer the slugs.      ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

IF you use weedmulch plastic (and I suspect, even if you don't) then Nemasys seems to work really well. It's a parasitic nematode control (ie a biological control).... you're basically watering in a large number of slug parasites into your soil ...if you have weemulch then the slugs will tend to stay under it and therefore they seem to pick up even more parasites and die quicker..... despite the weather I've been largely slug free this year whilst those around me have big problems.... I just wish there was one for rabbits......

Go lamping slugs with a good torch and a pair of scissors, about 10.00 to 11.00pm.

Go out one rainy night with a bucket, which is partly filled with a bleach solution. Not pleasant but it works. Repeat as necessary. Scissors and stamping are too gruesome for me!  :P
This year it's squash.
