What is it...a specific squash??

Got given this and bloke didnt know what it was...help! Want to cook it but wanted ideas of what it was and nicest way of preparing it :)

edit to add...it's 9inches in diameter and greeny yellow

It would have to be roasted for me but look forward to seeing other ideas.

we were given some last year, tasted horrid, quite bitter, found out they were ornamental gourds  :o
the plotholder didn't realise what he's grown  :o

take a small bite first  ;D
