It's a 'standard-type' beetle not a devil's coach horse. The big head and broad mandibles do look like a Stag Beetle relative, and it could easily be Lesser Stag beetle, but from that angle I'm not sure. I don't have a comprehensive beetle book, and while I do have a couple that cover some of the common ones, I might be finding that one simply because it's the one illustrated.
