Melon with Crab?
« on: July 02, 2009, 20:42:27 »
I just HATE America - take a pound of fresh White Crabmeat..... - over here that's £16 + £6 postage?

So one tries Tesco. Tinned. £6/lb. Thai. Oh, no - fishy!

But tinned Thai or fresh Cornish (not the same animal) - Nectarines or Melon are a real bonus. Esp when it's fishy!

Tim,
See if you can find a local fishmonger and ask for them to get the crab meat for you.
I had a lovely monger down Plymouth and then I went and caught it myself. Cant beat the fresh stuff.
John Dory was the fish of the day in my house.

Melon and crab.

for a start, crab is sweet so is melon

they will not complement.

Let us remember the old favourites.

Prawn cocktail
Egg mayonnaise
Consome and sherry
Potted shrimps

Followed by

Chicken Maryland
Gammon and Pineapple
Peppered Steak
Grilled Dover Sole.

For Desert we had

Raspberry cheesecake
Black Forrest Gateaux
Sherry trifle
Banana Split or Peach Melba.

People love all these

Fishmonger?  Tesco's the only one.  No - we have to import from St Columb.

Agree that Melon's a bit on the wimpy side, but Nectarines are a perfect foil. Lemon if you wish.

We still have a fishmonger who comes to the Friday market in Stamford-and it`s pretty good stuff.

But I do draw the line(no pun intended) at paying £12  for a lobster the size of an over grown prawn.

Maybe some `celebs` can afford to buy a pound of white crab meat or the odd couple of lobsters for a starter but I certainly cannot

I too would not pay that amount but I live by my pocket and only buy what I can afford.
Plenty of other types of fish recipes to use the cheaper cuts of meat.

Aha, but we were talking about shellfish?

Nice supplier, Landimad, but I'm hooked on the family business in Cornwall. Sentimental!

another take on melon and seafood is galia melon with prawns and maryrose. it  eats very well, i prefer my crab just dressed with a bit of mayo and lemon with just some crunchy romaine lettuce fantastic  ;D
