Toads Toads and even more Toads
«

When down to lottie yesterday evening and found it covered in tiny toads. They were everywhere. Each one about half an inch long. I hope that one or two stay.
They were all over the road as well, so managed to catch a few and relocate them to my garden, we have had the odd toad in the past. Worried that relocated ones will not be able to find their way back to the breeding grounds, though there is water in every direction. But the ones that I caught were going to get squished by the traffic anyway so a life eating my slugs will hopefully be preferable. Helped loads more across the road.
The curb stones are too high for them.

I did the same last year Digeroo, the road was covered in tiny things jumping, I started picking them up , and soon folk started asking what I was doing and we all started rescuing toads and putting them on the grass ,
not seen them yet this year ;D/ shades x

They mount a toad watch on some roads, but as far as I know these are for the adults going in the opposite direction.
There is a warning triangle with a toad in it on the A40 on the way to Cheltenham.

if this is happening regularly (annual etc) then the local wildlife trust may be interested in helping (getting a section of lower kerb etc put in/ toad watches :)
Good for you! I LOVE frogs and toads.

Lucky you! I have made 2 water holes in my garden for amphibians. I never see them in the water, but I have both toads and frogs. I have no idea where they breed, and there are no ponds or streams anywhere near us; yet they are in the garden.

Still loads of them round this morning. Some appear to be frog and some toads. Compare the size with my wedding ring.

When we were digging at the allotment over winter we dug up 2 (or 1 twice). We panicked & made a little home for it/them.

I can't believe it there are even more of them today. Hardly dare to move on the allotment for fear of treading on one.
Can anyone tell me why my images come up so small,
and then come up again as a thumb nail. you can click on them to make them bigger, but I do not think many people to it. Some people pics come out larger, how do they do it?

Went to the lottie today and underneath a piece of manure was about 20 little frogs/toads They are still lurking all over the place.
Can anyone tell we what these little mites eat. I think of toads and frogs as eating slugs, but they are tiny when compared with a slug. Do they eat ants? There does not seem to be much else around to eat.
