White plume moth

I'm one of those who is early to rise and early to bed, so I don't see many moths. You will imagine my surprise just now when I came across this beauty on my seeding spinach. I've never seen one before. Are they nocturnal? I understand they are quite common.

Lucky indeed as although they are quite common at this time of year they are generally nocturnal!
