Soap for aphids?
« on: July 01, 2009, 10:20:45 »
I have gone back through archives but am still confuddled as to what one to use/dilutions and how/when to appy....any help welcome as we have sycamore hedging adjacent to us and it  hosts millions of flying greenfly...air full of them at night...yuech. They are starting to amass on some of my plants but I don't want to harm Ladybirds etc

Sorry Jackie not sure that there is a set answer to this.  The horticultural soap breaks down the wax cover of the aphids.

If you follow this link you will get an idea of the type of soap you can get.  The dilution depends on the manufacturers instructions.

as for when well the first time should probably be in the evening.  Once you have cleared the majority of the aphids you might need to consider a garlic wash to keep them off.  The only problem is that you have to refresh the garlic wash if it rains.

I think there is a thread on garlic sprays on the forum.

Happy gardening

Jackie you might want to consider this link

It is a bitof an initial expense but the dilution means that it will go a long way and that seems to be what you need.
