Two stunted toms with one normal one.

Three stunted Basil with three normal ones.

What's up??

My guess with the basil is that at some stage before the plants had established properly the compost was too wet

As for the tomato my Opalka looks like that only worse,it`s usually a good one as well but from 15 seeds sown only 3 reached my `for sale`standard and I was foolish enough to plant one of the runts :-[

Strange isn't it? I have one like that.

It's an Ailsa Craig, the seed of which I must have had for ten years, although I don't think that is the cause of the problem.

It is the first plant as I go through the door of the greenhouse and thought it might have been in a draught at some stage, but I am only guessing.

BTW Tim I noticed you have missed a couple of side shoots ;)

I over-enthusiastically removed the leader on one of my toms and it's the only one that hasn't thrown up a sideshoot since!!

Dont feel so bad now I know I am not the only one DJ - I nipped out what I thought was a side shoot on a Pantano tom and came away with the main shoot - complete with a new truss :'( Felt such an idiot!

My toms have turned into triffids! I thought they were meant to be small and bushy but they are huge, i really don't know wat i have done wrong! plenty of flowers on them and some baby tomatoes are beginning to show.

What variety??

And never confuse `bush` and `small fruit` with small plants, e.g

`Yellow currant` is ostensibly a bush and has tiny yellow fruit ---but the plants grow to be huge-think scaffolding to support them!!

Ower Tones Toms in the GH at the plot have hardly any foliage but plenty of fruit.He's only grown Shirley up there this year. He likes to keep an eye on the other varieties so he grows them at home.

I think they are called Gardeners Delight i got them from The Good Food show they are just going up and up and up! all the flowers are in the centre of the plant so if i am meant to pick something out i'm not quite sure what and where! lol!

Yes six foot for a GD is not unusual-and although I have grown many,many varieties over the years I always have room for a couple of them.
