Onion seed

 Can anyone tell me which is the correct way to take any seed from last years onions and will the seed germinate, :)

The seed should germinate very well but with all open pollinated plants, what you put in is not always what you get out. Well worth the effort though. As for the right way, who knows?

I recommend waiting till the head is dry then tying a paper bag over it before digging the whole onion up and leaving it in a dry place for a week or two. By then the seeds should shake loose into the bag.

or possibly wait until the flower has set (when the bees stop coming) and tie a bag over the seedhead.......
