Snap!  Found the first one today too.  I'm very glad to see it as ladybirds seeem to have been a bit thin on the ground this year on the plot.  Been seeing odd ones but not the large numbers of previous years.

does anyone have a picture of what the chrysalis looks like. i found something on a leaf the other day and think it is a ladybird chrysalis. :)

pic 1 is a 7 spot pupa
pic 2 is 7 spot eggs
pic 3 is a harlequin lavae :(

thanks i have lots of the first picture, don't think I've seen the last one are they goodies or baddies?

They're an introduced species which eats loads of aphids, so it's a goodie to that extent. Unfortunately it's also a baddie as when it runs out of aphids it puts on its black hat, forgets to shave, and eats the smaller native ladybird larvae.

Twoflower, I'm pleased you asked about ladybird chrysalis because I'd never given them any thought before but during my pottering today I spotted two.  I've no idea what type of ladybird they are (probably Harlequin :() but interesting to observe none the less.  From what I've read they will become ladybirds within about a week?

It's his profession so yes to both! NiC's photos of London wildlife are really outstanding.
