Italian climbing bean
« on: June 14, 2009, 09:46:48 »
I have never grown these before, but I though I would give them a try.  Do I do the same as I would a runner bean, grow them on canes.  Also what do they look like and taste like.

If it's def. a climber I would treat it like a french bean... you will need canes..  :)

I'm growing Marvel of Venice this year - it's a climbing french bean with big yellow pods

Thats the one, I though they might be the yellow ones, more colour in my veg patch then.  What do they taste like, do they crop well or just a few

Tried Marvel of Venice last year.  Slugs like them.  Am trying again fewer slugs this year so far.  My daughter prefers the flat podded french beans to runners.  We call them squeaky beans becuase they seem to squeak against your teeth when you eat them.  Do not need the bees.

Have you grown these before saddad? If not, you are in for a treat. They are gorgeous!
