Tall posts for hanging baskets.
« on: June 01, 2009, 12:29:03 »
I'm after a tall post for a hanging basket.

The only ones I can find are the Gardman bird feeders, but by the time they are firmly planted in the ground they are barely 5 1/2 ft.

I would like one that is around 8 ft.

I've looked at scaffold poles, but can't think how I'm ever going to drill a hole through heavy steel to attach a basket hanger, and they're not as attractive as the pre-made ones.

Any suggestions/ideas  ?

Get an 8ft fence post and a ground spike from somewhere like Focus.

Why not a put a 4ft scaffold pole in the ground 2ft or whatever and insert the Gardman bird feeder into the scaffold pole(could use wooden wedges to hold it),the inside diameter of a pole is something like 44mm then you could hide the scaffold pole with some sort of flowers or plants  8)

Thanks for all the brilliant suggestion.

Clip'n'hang have given me a few ideas, but looking at the costs, I might have a go at making my own to hang on a post. Not sure about hanging things off a wooden panel - it might get damaged.

I put the word out down the lottie, and I've been donated a 3ft length of scaffolding. Purfec'  :)

How about a clothes line post
I have an upside down christmas tree stand on each of my posts which take three baskets each - the effect is quite stunning.
