I brough some  sweetcorn plants which i brought from someone on allotments and lots of them have started to turn yellowish. does this mean a lack of nitrogen.  They looked so good in the pots but now not so sure.  This happened last year and i dont want to be loosing many again and having to replant!!

Would i be wise to put a liquid feed together?, wondering about someone chicken manure soaked in water?

they are probably not hardened off yet! they don't like high winds, or cold nights. ;)

i put ours out 3 weeks ago due to impatience/overexcitement,but did cover them in a homemade cloche for warmth, wondering if a bit of cover may help yours? failing that, buy some seeds and sow some back ups?hope this helps

I have transplanted 2 lots into their final growing position.  Swift variety are all green with no problems. They have been in my coldframe for 2 weeks at least.   Extra Early Tender & Sweet variety had yellowing leaves and had been in an unheated greenhouse at the plot.  When I looked at the base of these pots - they were all rootbound, with loads of roots trying to force their way out the bottom of the pot.  Maybe it is because they need more root growing space?

I agree with the cold diagnosis, the weather's been a bit crap for the last week.

I've only just sown mine due to the same thing happening to me previous years.
I hoe, I hoe, then off to work I go.

They should survive Phil... lots over here in Derby have got it out and this wind has chilled them, but they look like they will come through..  :)

I sowed mine last wednesday night, Minipop. I put them in the airing cupboard & had a look yesterday am & there was 1 seed through. I had another look at bedtime & there were 6 through, today 7 (out of 20). When should I take them out & where should they go? I also planted another 10 from a different supplier & they aren't showing yet.

Hi Janet

I would take them out straight away, the ones that are not yet through should hopefully have had enough warmth, but more importantly the seedlings that are through need light or they will grow too tall and spindly.  They have come though lovely and quickly.  If you have them in one tray they will all need to come out but if they are separate can you just take out the ones that have germinated?

I always move mine to a warm windowsill so hopefully not too much shock for them and gradually move them to cooler positions.

Thanks Tulipa. I thought that would be the case. I planted the 20 & the 10 in different cell trays so I will leave them where they are. Will they be OK in the greenhouse?

I would have thought they would be fine in a greenhouse as they will get plenty of light.  I don't have one so that is why mine have to go on the windowsill. :'(  One day.....

Well down at the allotment this morning, took cloche of and they all nearly back to normal . looking healthy just ones a bit behind.  So they seem to have appreciated the bit of warmth :)

They normally go like that when they first go in, just sulk a bit until they get used to the soil and surroundings, they soon get back to normal, I wish I had some to moan about.  :'(       ;D ;D ;D
