My partner and I went down to the lotty last night to do some earthing up. I was working in the lean to and when it was time to leave I noticed that he had completely covered all the lovely green growth on the plants. Will they die?

Those leaves will, unless the stem is growing fast enough to push them back out of the light soil covering... like seedlings do... but the plant will continue to push up to the light... :)
