Too much PSB?
« on: April 17, 2009, 16:34:17 »
Yes, I never thought it would happen... With the recent perfect psb weather, we're absolutely inundated with the stuff, and it does seem a shame to turn it into soup but we're actually starting to get tired of it, for the first time ever. Well, since I was a kid anyway.

Anyone else have this rather rare problem?

Have got some in the fridge, can't face anymore today.  Raining here today and sunny tomorrow and Sunday so expect there will be more to pick on Sunday, will give it to my veggie friend.  Nearly dug it up and threw it on compost as the pigeons had really had a go and it looked so sad, but suddenly it has had a second life.

I freeze mine too if I get a chance (cos it's one of my fav'rite nighttime snaks tossed in oil/chillies/garlic...) but I agree with Shirl, it freezes beautifully....

1066 - sorry, I missed your original post. It sounds like we may have the same variety of psb because I bought mine from Wyvale as plug plants last autumn too  :-X. I didn't know the variety, but have just googled `Cardinal'.

That famous organic veg box company `Riverford Organic Veg' grow it & say `We finish the season with Cardinal or Tozers “late selection” in late April or early May.'

There's (possibly) hope for us yet! ;D

Now with a 2nd plot..... I am getting in all the extra stuff I always wanted to grow 8) 8)   I have just transplanted 18 seedlings into larger pots for next year.  Is this too many for a family I have not bothered with it before due to lack of room.

Family of 10 maybe? I had four good plants this year, and four more white sprouting broccoli's... we were giving the stuff away in the end.

gotta agree we had six huge plants last year and were inundated, we are a family of five, this year we have four plants which didn't grow as well and we have at least two harvest per week, more than enough for our needs. so i'll be planting just 4 plants again this year.

I have 5 Plants and at the moment I am collecting the best harvest for years. While the prices in Asdas at all heading for the sky I class myself very fortunate to have a allotment and a abundant harvest of winter greens

My seed for for next year has just germinated. Last year we had 10 plants .Will definitely be growing more this year. whilst in Lidl I stumbled (as ya do) on a 4 cheeses sauce in a jar.95p Try it with your brocolli.I use half the jar and add a drop of milk to it, so it does us twice.

And I missed yours - sorry! It does sound as if its the same
But there's still hope, mine seemed to have picked up a lot from the recent rain
We'll just have to practice patience  :P  . Just about to sow mine for next year.........

Oh, well memo to self to not buy PSB plug plants in autumn And sow your own !!

I agree about freezing well, and has anyone tried a broccoli and orange salad? Barely cooked bright green broccoli, sliced oranges, oil and lemon dressing - delicious.

Sounds delicious Artichoke, but looking at my distinct lack of PSB this year it will be 1 for next year!
