Problems with images on A4ALL
« on: September 14, 2004, 11:53:53 »
In the latest ina series of internet related problems, iam now havingproblems viewing images posted on A4ALL.

I think the problem may be with images linked from the photobucket site, since not alll images are affected (those from sites such as MSN groups load fine).

I am used to images not loading for whatever reason and have accepted it in the past when a Red X in a white box appears instead of the image. This time itis different. NOTHING appear where the image should be not even the Red X.

I would like to know if this is a problem with this site, the linking from the host site or is (yet again) a problem on my computer.

Thanks

Richard,

I can see the pictures fine - and I am no where near the server!

This is the address of one of the pictures you can not see,

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v172/Berghill/AASeptember/1tree03.jpg

Can you either click on the link and see it, or copy the link into a browser and see it ?

Can you see the photobucket site at all?

It could be a routing error from AOL to photobucket - the nature of the internet!

enter this into a command prompt on your PC and let us know the output.

tracert www.photobucket.com

This will give us an idea of how a request from your PC reaches the photobucket site.

Cheers

Dan

You can also use this site to perform a trace route.

Problem now seems to have sorted itself out now - on its own. Very strange.

Did try the tracer thing but couldnt really understand the results. Never mind.

Are your browsers or internet accounts set up to use proxies at all? I seem to remember this when I used to use blueyonder.

I seem to remember mentioning this to Blueyonder in the past and they said not applicable with Broadband, plus it only happens on A4A and it is intermittent, one day no picture the next it appears, weird :o

Roy,

Do you visit any other forums ?  Also do you know if when you are unable to view an image - can you view it by looking at the properties, and viewing it directly ?

The reason I ask is that if you visit, say microsoft, all the images you see on the page are stored on the microsoft server, but on this (and most other) boards, only the link to the original site is stored, and the picture is retrieved every time it is needed by a client.

Cheers

Hi Dan yes I do frequent other forums and no I can't view when cut 'n' pasting properties.
The thing that is so strange is that it could happen with other posters images and or mine, one day on the same thread I couldn't see my image but could all others and vice versa.

The only thing I can pin it down to is possibly because I am using "Image Shack" to post pictures here as I cant seem to get the hang of posting directly off my own web space on to here but can on other sites.

Thanks for trying to help.
